Valencian wines and grape varieties

Valencia produces a broad selection of red wines, white wines, cavas and sweet wines, made from a wide variety of grapes, from the internationally known Moscatel to lesser known local varieties such as Bobal.

In the last 15 years, the quality of bottled wine from Valencia has improved remarkably while still remaining reasonably priced. For this reason, it is now much more common to find many Valencian wines on wine menus, in specialist wine stores and even supermarkets, both inside and outside Spain.

Popular with connoisseurs - but equally delicious for the amateur drinker - are local indigenous varieties such as the red Bobal and white Tardiana and Verdil, which offer distinctive tones that can only be found in Valencia.

Other widely used varieties are Tempranillo, Monastrell, Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon and Moscatel.
